14.POST EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS

When the play begins, we witness a postal assistant recalling the incidents of the previous day. She comments on her curious customers but never loses her temper, always behaving very politely. The first customer, Mrs. Smith, is a lady suffering from rheumatic disease. She comes to buy stamps and a postal order. The next customer, Mrs. Jones, is an acquaintance of Mrs. Smith and comes to post her Christmas presents, but behaves very rudely.

The play introduces other humorous characters who exhibit peculiar behavior towards the postal assistant, such as the old gentleman and the fussy old lady. The deaf old man gives odd responses to the assistant's questions, while the old lady mistakenly believes the post office is an animal clinic.

A farmer in the play reveals news about a time bomb inside a Christmas parcel in London. He warns that if there is a bomb in the parcel, it will make a ticking sound, causing fear among the people in the post office. Mrs. Higgins and her son Bertie enter the post office, with Bertie behaving in a naughty manner.

The plot takes an intriguing turn when a foreign customer arrives at the post office to send a Christmas parcel to his friend. His repeated questions about the safety of his parcel add to the story's interest. The foreigner leaves the post office without taking his gloves, and Bertie hears a ticking sound from the tourist's parcel. Others confirm it, creating panic. The farmer identifies the parcel as a real bomb. Bertie calls a policeman at his mother's instruction, and when the tourist returns for his gloves, he is shocked to see the policeman. He pleads with the officer not to throw his parcel into the water. Everyone in the post office becomes terrified, hiding to escape the potential explosion. However, the tourist reveals that it is not a time bomb but just a clock. He becomes angry and decides to file a complaint. The assistant leaves the post office to work in an animal dispensary, confident that animals will never do silly things like humans
